Sara — you da winner. I’d hate to be you right now, having to decide between mustard yellow or grey. I mean, how dreadful a choice. Email me with your tough decision! kristin@kristinpartin.com
You want to know one of my very favorite questions? “Where did you get those grey striped coasters from your living room pictures?” Oh well I’ll tell you! Kelly the steady hand made them! She admitted it was quite time consuming but I am so glad she took the time because boy are they the best.
Would you like some? Well okay! To be entered to win a 4 pack of coasters, all you have to do is leave a comment about how awesome Kelly is and how much you want these. hehe. Oh and guess what? She will paint them in whatever color you want! Let’s give Kelly a round of applause.
(more technical instructions..hence the bulleting)
So what I’ve found is this. There’s a fine line between too much and just enough. Pretty and masculine. Gaudy & catchy. Good design is a balance of these things; a marriage of thoughts, if you will. I find that a bedroom beckons for serenity, quiet and fuel for the next day. That discovery applies to colors, accessories and the overall mood. Tidy house, tidy mind. Pretty and functional. Our bedroom before had none of these things. It was stark, white, uninviting and worst of all, uninspiring. That just won’t do! Even though our home is just a rental (did you know that? we’re actually in the early early stages of making our own home), I wanted it to feel like ours and leave us with a restful spirit inside. So many homes lack that sense of ‘cozy’ because, let’s face it, they can’t be bothered. I’m not talking about a total re-haul, just a few things here and there. A new paint color, a new bedspread or even a few photos you have stored on your computer hung with careful choice and thought. It makes a world of difference in the confidence & pride in your home. It leaves those who visit feeling like they’ve actually visited a piece of your heart and stepped inside your real live sanctuary of life. I really am passionate about this, can you tell? Well, I’ll stop chit chattering and show you the photos.

The perfect pretty/functional nightstand combo? A place for your rings, a glass of water and things to help you cozy up with a good book before bed.
In case you’re wondering, Curtis casually reads these nightly before bed. hehe.
I moved the hutch from our living room to the bedroom to store our growing collection of quilts. Things don’t HAVE to go where they’re intended to be 🙂

Did I miss anything?
It’s no secret, pillows are my jam. My husband doesn’t quite understand the necessity of them. pish posh. SO, before you spend $30 on a throw pillow, look at what you have first!
Instead of buying new fabric or new pillows, I re-decorated our master bedroom with inspiration from our old shower curtain. It’s sturdy fabric, a good bit of fabric and best of all, free. The old pillows we had on our bed just weren’t working with my new design so they got recovered. The key to saving money is thinking outside the box. Total project cost : $0. my favorite number. other than the number 8, I quite like that number, too.
If you are unsure how to make a pillow, there are lots of great tutorials on youtube. OR do what I did and ask your grandma! She will be flattered that you asked and you get some quality time with her.
In my opinion, the hardest part about sewing is fixing the machine when it jams. which happens to mine a lot.
Did you know you can plant flowers in virtually anything? well you can! Now don’t be fooled, I am not in any way, shape or form a gardener…however, I wanted flowers so I gave it a go. As long as your pot/container of choice is set up to drain properly, you can plant your springtime blooms in whatever tickles your fancy. In my case, thrifted kitchen canisters-$3 for a set of 5.
I drilled 3 small holes in the bottom of my canisters with a 1/4″ bit. For the larger canisters, I drilled 5 holes with the same bit. If your are keeping your blooms inside, make sure you place your container of choice on a plate or something with an outer lip to contain the water from dripping everywhere.
take your bloom out of it’s plastic container, loosen the roots, drop in your pot & fill in the loose holes with potting soil.
Have fun working outdoors!
